2024 Queens Nominees
Marnie Skipper
Home Hill Community Kindergarten
At just 19 years old, Marnie Skipper is representing the Home Hill Community Kindergarten, where she works after completing her Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. Marnie is now pursuing her diploma, all while juggling two additional jobs as an assistant educator and a dance teacher. Her passion for working with children, shaped by years of dancing and teaching, makes her a perfect fit for this role. Marnie attended the kindergarten herself, and she’s excited to raise money for a service so close to her heart.
Sophie Brosnan
Get Fit Home Hill
Representing Get Fit Home Hill is 27-year-old Sophie Brosnan. Originally from Germany, Sophie made the Burdekin her home at 22 when she moved here as a backpacker and met her now-husband Clinton. Sophie has embraced her new life by working as a student nurse and fitness enthusiast. By the end of the year, she will be a registered nurse, serving the community through Regis Home Hill and local hospitals. Sophie’s love for animals and her active involvement in bodybuilding competitions highlight her determination and dedication to health and wellness. She’s best known around town as “the girl with the dog,” thanks to her pup Oreo, who often accompanies her on shifts at the aged care home.
Harmony Fletcher
Home Hill Rotary Club
Eighteen-year-old Harmony Fletcher is representing the Home Hill Rotary Club, an organization she admires for its generosity and kindness. A recent graduate of Home Hill High School, Harmony now works full-time in the bakery department at IGA. She is eager to form connections with her fellow entrants and the wider community through this year’s festival. Outside of work, Harmony spends her free time either at the gym or at home with her beloved dog, Hazel.
Tegan Johnson
Burdekin Rugby League Club
Representing Burdekin Rugby League Club is Tegan Johnson, 28, a lifelong Burdekin resident. Tegan runs her own fashion hire business, which caters to both local and interstate clients. Two years ago, she took up rugby league, joining the Hens team, and she’s enjoyed every moment since. Tegan’s entrepreneurial spirit and love for fashion are matched by her commitment to fitness, soccer, and community involvement. She’s excited to represent Burdekin Rugby League and be part of this year’s Harvest Festival.
Danelle Laubscher
Home Hill-Ayr Lions Club
Eighteen-year-old Danelle Laubscher is proudly representing the Home Hill-Ayr Lions Club. Originally from South Africa, Danelle has called the Burdekin home since 2022. Now a Year 12 student at Burdekin Christian College, she is eager to immerse herself in the community and meet new people. Danelle’s love for the area has grown as she explores all that the Burdekin has to offer. She’s honored to represent the Lions Club in this year’s festival and is looking forward to every moment of the experience.
Madison Mainwaring-Samwell
Burdekin Netball Association
Madison Mainwaring-Samwell, 20, is representing the Burdekin Netball Association. A long-time member of the club, Madison has played, umpired, coached, and now serves as the Social Media Officer. Her dedication to the club is unwavering, and she’s eager to give back by raising funds for the organization that played such an important role in her childhood. Madison looks forward to building connections with the other queens and the community as she participates in this year’s festival.
Martina Bojack
Home Hill Community Sports Club
Martina Bojack, 18, is representing the Home Hill Community Sports Club. A university student at James Cook University in Townsville, Martina is studying a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Accounting and Financial Advising. She balances her studies with part-time work at Cormack and Company Accountants in Ayr. Martina is thrilled to be part of this year’s Harvest Festival Queen program, seeing it as a chance to connect with the community and build lasting relationships with her fellow queens. In her free time, you’ll likely find her studying or catching up on NRL games.
2023 Queen Winners
2034 – Charity Winner
Representing Burdekin Netball Association is Dayna Linton who is 19 years old. She is an Agribusiness Relationship Assistant at Rural Bank as a part of the Bendigo Bank Group. Dayna is also studying a Diploma of Agribusiness Management at RuralBiz Training. She is excited to be involved in the 2023 Home Hill Harvest Festival and is proud to represent Burdekin Netball, a club she has been involved
in from a very young age, as a player, umpire, coach and committee member. Dayna is the Umpire Convener which includes allocating the umpiring draw and teaching & developing the umpires. She is passionate about developing the juniors and feels a great sense of pride seeing them succeed.
Dayna has decided to be involved in the Harvest Festival Queen program to fund-raise for Burdekin Netball Association and give back to a club that has been a huge part of her childhood. She is excited to build relationships with the other Queen Entrants & form connections in the wider community.
2023 – Personality Winner
Representing the Home Hill – Ayr Lions club is Ally-Jo Farry who is 18 years old, Ally-Jo attended Home Hill High School. She is now in the hair industry and is a second-year apprentice at Phoenix Hair Studio. Ally-Jo has resided in the Burdekin district all her life and loves
the tight knit of the community and people. She is honoured and excited to be representing the Lions Club and to build relationships with the other Queen Entrants as well as the fellow community members. Ally-Jo is beyond thrilled as the Harvest Festival has always been her favourite event of the year. In Ally-Jo’s free time you will usually see her out with family or out in the boat fishing down the creek.
